I have always loved photography but have, in the past, had little time for it. I'm now a "happy retiree" and thoroughly enjoy "playing" with my cameras and photo applications. I'm a "wanna-be" professional photographer, but I'm quite happy being an amateur. I hope you enjoy my photographs. If you have any comments you would like to share, please don't hesitate to email me by clicking on the "Email Me" link above.

*Ron, Dennis & Brian's Trip to Europe - 1966* : Email me

Please note that the camera I used was a 33mm camera from Montgomery Ward (not a name brand; not sure who made it)....and focusing/shutter speed/aperture, etc. was all manual. I hope you enjoy these photos. I certainly enjoy looking back at this trip I took in 1966.

Two of my best friends from high school and I planned this trip for 2 years before we actually went. Dennis, Brian and I were in college at the time, and the book, "Europe on $5 a Day", was quite popular. I flew from San Francisco to Paris (via New York and Madrid) on June 20th, 1966 and met Brian and Dennis at La Bourget Airport for the beginning of a 12 week 'Grand Tour' using a Eurail Pass, nights in pensions and hostels, etc. We covered 12 countries. These photos (slides) were taken with my 35mm camera and are now over 40 years old. I use a Nikon transparency scanner and am still trying to figure out how to get the best quality scans. I plan to add more scans of any photos I find and other scans of related trip "stuff". I also have two or three new photo editing applications, so I may play with those to see if I get any improvement with image quality, etc.

London Trip - May 10th - DxO & Aperature Edited : It is now Saturday....two days before Dan and I fly back to San Francisco. There is LOTS I still would like to see and many more photos to take. David, Paul and Dan are going to to antique shopping for the day, and I am deserting them to take off on foot for the day. My very long walk and travels via London's Underground will take me from David's flat down through Chelsea, to Sloane Square, on to Westminster, across the Thames for a ride on the London Eye, and all around Parliament and Westminster Abbey. The weather was very nice to begin with but clouded up a bit by the time I arrived at Westminster. I do have a deadline for getting back to David's flat though........tonight is when we will be attending a performance at the Royal Opera House near Covent Garden! So, here we go.......... :-)

London Trip - May 11th, 2008 : Today is Sunday, May 11th, 2008. This would have been my father's 89th birthday. This is also my last full day in London for this trip, so I need to make the best of it! As you may remember from my day yesterday, my first goal is to visit the Cabinet War Rooms. I'm very interested in this because I was born during WWII, and lots of things were going on during my first year of life before the war was over in 1945. As you will notice right away, today is a much better weather day with gorgeous blue skies. So, since I was a bit disappointed with the 'lighting' on Saturday's photos, I decided I'd take some more shots of some of the same places I visited yesterday....but, this time, bright sunny skies would prevail! This was a fun day and the perfect 'ending' to our wonderful trip to London! So, here we go again! After, being out late last night, I got a fairly early start and headed directly to the Westminster Underground Station.

Ron's Master Bathroom - UPDATE 4-14-09 : Ron's Bathroom.....almost done. The paint will be finished up tomorrow. The towel racks, hotel shelf, mirror, etc. should also go up tomorrow. A couple of "parts" are coming in the next day or two. I expect it to be totally functional by the end of the week or early next week. Then, it's likely that the guest bath will be started soon. The distorted photos shown here were taken with a very wide angle fisheye lens. the colors are more realistic in the first 3 photos, but the bath does have a sort of celery green glow. I'm very happy with it.....so far. I can hardly wait until the racks, mirror, light fixture, etc. go up.

Yosemite Trip with Dan, Garrie, Janet & Ron : My very good friends, Dan & Garrie Black, flew to California for a 12 day visit at Ronnie's B & B in late October and early November. I had planned for a long time to take them to Yosemite National Park, a place they had never visited. So, after a weather delay of a few days, we drove to Yosemite with another dear friend, Janet Adams, on November 7th. We had reservations at the Tenaya Lodge in Fish Camp, CA (just outside the south entrance of Yosemite) for Friday night, spent Saturday, November 8th in Yosemite and drove back home that evening .....very dark, hail, rain, winds and very scary night driving over twisty-turny two lane highways. The trip was enjoyed by all. Yosemite is a spectacular place that everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime. Stunning scenery.

September 1st is finally here! After booking our Provence "farmhouse' in September 2005, booking our British Airways flight to Paris in December 2005, we are finally upon the day of departure! I know I was having another one of my 'out-of-body" experiences on this day, but managed to get to the airport via BART with my luggage (and me) in tact. The photos in this gallery (Day 1) are just a few to capture the beginning of the trip at San Francisco International Airport.....our 'jumping off" point. See Day 2 photos for a bit of our flight, arrivals in London/Paris....and our arrival at our hotel in Paris on Saturday evening.

Day 14 - Trip to France (Day-Trip to Lyon) : Email me

Today, we had to be up VERY early in order to drive into Avignon to the TGV Gare for a 7:31 AM train to Lyon. The night before, we had lightening, thunder and wind. Everything was rattling and shuddering throughout the night. Janet got up about 4:30 AM, and I got up about 5:00 AM. It was very dark, and we could see lightening still flashing from our farmhouse windows. I was shocked into total "awakeness" as I discovered a scorpion between my feet while "properly seated" in the bathroom!! When we left the farmhouse, it was pouring rain and still dark. I had a most difficult time with that 5-speed automobile when it came to backing out of our farmhouse "driveway", if that's what you want to call it. I could see nothing, and was backing and pulling forward to try to turn around when we apparently backed into something! Janet was sure we had hit the farmhouse. Once we got to Avignon and on the train (yes, we DID make it there in time), we were fine.....but we knew this was going to be a LONG day......and we were beginning to feel a bit "tired" from all of our travels so far.....but to Lyon it was! This "day in Lyon" was very different that our other "days". Lyon is the 3rd largest city in France (after Paris and Marseilles) and known as the gastronomy capital of France; one of the reasons I was particularly interested in visiting Lyon. So, here we go for a full day "photo tour" of what we saw in Lyon....:-)

Day 13 - Trip to France (Nice...then back to St. Didier) : Email me

After missing our train back to Avigon the night before, we had a very nice restful evening and morning at the Hotel Splendid in Nice. We decided to just sleep in and get a mid-day train to Avignon and then head back to the farmhouse from there. Therefore, there are not as many photos for "Day 13"; a few in Nice the morning of our departure and a few on the TGV back to Avignon. We had to purchase a new rail ticket (the "missed train" ticket was non-refundable, etc.....just like flying) and it would take us back to the "new" TGV station in Avignon while our rental car was parked at the garage of the "old" rail station in Avignon. So, here is our day.......

2006 Hollywood Çhristmas Parade : My friend, Bob, and I attended the Hollywood Christmas Parade on Sunday, November 26th, 2006. We had purchased grandstand tickets and wound up with a prime location near the television coverage, announcers, etc......right across the street from the Kodak Theater and Grauman's Chinese Theater....and almost under the marquee of the El Capitan Theatre.....one of the old Hollywood cinemas. These photos were taken at dusk and after dark with zillions of spotlights, camera flashes, etc. I took some with a good strong flash and others with no flash at all....so quality varies. Of course, most of the time, things (people and floats) were "moving"....which made it more difficult to get good clear shots. However, I think the results provide a pretty good "show" of the annual parade which attracts a street audience of 500,000 to 1,000,000 people each year. The weather this year was cool...but perfect for a holiday event like this. It actually got me a bit in "the spirit"!!! :-)

It's still surprising how close many of the places we wanted to see in Provence are! The scenery changes with every highway and almost every curve in the road. It's beautiful everywhere. Day 8: Today, Friday, September 8th, we are heading over to an area north of Avignon, the Chateauneuf-du-Pape wine region.....one of the most famous and prestigious of all wine regions in the world. None of these places are very far away from our farmhouse in St. Dildier; 30 minutes to an hour, usually....depending of if we get lost or not! After a few hours visiting the village and driving around the countryside, we will head into the city of Avignon, the gateway city to Provence. Avignon is a medieval city with approximately 3 miles of "walls" surrounding the city center. The walls are punctuated by 39 toers and seven gates.....all very pretty and lit by flood lighting at night. Day 2 - Trip to France (Flight to London; Arrival in Paris) : Email me

Day 2 (techncally) when daylight arrived on our flight to London....it was Satiurday, September 2nd.....London/Paris time. We arrived in Paris very late afternoon, got to our hotel and had dinner before retiring after being 'on the road' from home from about 11pm Paris time on Friday, September 1st (2pm California time) and going to be about 1am Paris time on September 3rd (Sunday).......4pm Saturday, California time. I sort of go back into jet-lag mode just thinking about it.
So, the first two days were basically travel days. Day 3, Sunday, will be more interesting overall since it would be our first full day in Paris with places to go and things to see. See Trip to France Day 3 (The Louvre and other Paris Delights).
